Here you will find paintings of Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest, places I know intimately, as well as watercolors of Italy, Greece and Japan, places I've loved visiting.
Hawaii: Whether inspired by the vast starkness of Kilauea Caldera, the grace of the tropicbirds, the heat and power of the volcanic energy, I find myself painting the volcano's themes time and again. And then there is the wetness of the verdant rainforest near Hilo-the beautiful and bountiful jungle and waterfalls are perfect subject matter for watercolor paintings.
The Pacific Northwest: Oregon has been my home for most of my life so it's the mountains and rivers that speak to me. My paintings of the peaks of the Cascades, the ravines of the Wallowas, the winding course of the Salmon, the peace of the John Day, and the wilds of the Rogue River come from my heart.
Foreign Travels: The Asian influence has touched Western artists for hundreds of years and I, too, am inspired by the paintings, ancient art and cultures of China and Japan. And what artist wouldn’t be intrigued by the honeycomb villages of the Mediterranean, one building on top of another, joined by steps twisting and turning up the terrain? The cities of Greece and Rome speak of art and sophistication, while the countryside hold bounties of colorful produce and flowers. I want my watercolor paintings of Italy, Greece, Japan and other points on the globe to reflect a fresh and respectful point of view.
